2010-07-23 Fifth Day at IT Camp

Time passed so quickly, I couldn't imagine that it was already the fifth day. I really wanted to have some fun for the last whole-day here, but I knew that my wish couldn't be fulfilled. I knew that we had to spend our whole day in the Manufacturing Systems Lab to cut our recordings into a real video. I guessed it right. We really did spend our whole day at the lab. We did spend all our time facing compurters and stuff. IT was real boring.

Actually, apart from computers, we did go on a little "tour" around the school. It was then when I realized the hugeness of the school. If I were to walk around on my own, I must have gotten lost. But anyways, the whole tour was really boring. I even fell asleep.

2010-07-22 Fourth Day at IT Camp

IT was the fourth day already. We had another talk about "Problem Based Learing" that needed us to choose a topic, write a questionaire with multiple choice questions and interview students for their opinion. We chose a topic concerning the distribution of the dormitories of students at the university. The interviewing part wasn't quite successful. People ignored us and wouldn't help us fill in the questionaire. It was quite a tough job.

The whole afternoon we spent making the rest of the movie. I thought I looked so stupid. Under the eyes of thousands of people going in and out of "Park'n Shop", I dressed up like a boy and we filmed there. Right there on the spot. I looked ridiculous. Stupid too. And I couldn't even do my part well, which I had to blame myself for.

At night, we had something like a campfire thingee. It was just an enormous group of people dancing around the group leaders and project leaders and some of the university students. They sort of taught us how to dance, but too bad I didn't like it. Every single human being would have known that I hated moving around, especially dancing! So after this experience, I decided that I would never ever even touch dancing ever again. From that moment on, I knew that I hated that sort of dancing for the rest of my life. Although I didin't enjoy it, I still sweated a lot, and which I didn't even have the opportunity to wash my hair that night, which was really sort of unfortunate.

2010-07-21 Third Day at IT Camp

This was already the third day of the camp. The hungriness between meals grew stronger and stronger. The growls of my stomach grew louder and louder. It was in the morning just after we woke up, nobody should have irritated me when I was still half awake, but somebody did! They took us to listen to a talk soooooooo boring about identification and stuff that I fell asleep! In the morning! At ten o'clock! That was the first time that happened to me-- falling asleep in the middle of the morning!

There was a little break of fifteen minutes. Whew! What a relief to get away from the pondorous monotone. Oh no! There was another talk coming up! But fortunately, this one was loads better. At least I didn't fall asleep in the middle of it. It was about RFID and stuff, but obviously I had not a bit of interest in it. After what seemed like hours, the talk finally ended.

After lunch, something more interesting came up, at least it sounded interesting. We had the oportunity to go to the RTHK control centre for a trip. It sounded interesting, but in fact, it wasn't. It was loads smaller than I thought it was going to be. We didn't need two minutes to walk around the "site". It was boring. Very, indeed.

After dinner, it was the event that we might have found most useful in our project. In the Manufacturing Systems Lab, we learnt how to manufacture the recordings and edit them, which was the main thing we had to do to make our web TV. We sort of "skipped lesson" for the last bit and did our first shoot of our little drama.

2010-07-20 Second Day at IT Camp

My stomach was growling the first thing I woke up in the morning. I was dizzy when I got down from my bed. After a not-so-satisfying breakfast, we started our long day.

The first thing we did was write a script for the little video we were going to take. I was quite satisfied with our product but there was a problem in choosing the actors. As our whole group was composed of girls and only girls, there was no one to act the male part. After a long decision, I decided that I didn't mind acting a boy, but the main problem is that I knew that I couldn't act well! But nevertheless, I took the part.

In the afternoon, we learnt how to make our own web page, which is the one which I am typing on now. It was a boring, few-hours process in which the instructor spoke too fast without letting people catch up. I didn't catch a bit out of that "talk". Those few hours were so very boring.

At night, we got to watch stars, but before that, we had to have a briefing session. But the problem is that the session was so boring that I fell asleep halfway through. The Typhoon Signal Number One is hosted, so the sky was totally covered by thick clouds. We could only see a few of the brightest stars in the sky. There was only stormy clouds in the sky, so we couldn't do anything else but go back to the dormitories.

2010-07-19 First Day at IT Camp

It was really nothing much we did today, but the most unforgettable one was making a lever out of wooden chopsticks, a plastic spoon and rubber bands. We had a competition to see which of the groups had made a lever that can shoot ping-pong balls furthest and the most accurate. Although we won neither of them, I still enjoyed the process of "building" the lever. I think it might have increased our teamspirit and co-operation.

We did a little orientation around the school at night. It was until then did I find out how big this university was (well, at least compared to our school) and I couldn't understand how the group leaders get to know the campus so well. The games or "games" we did at each checkpoint weren't exactly fun but at least it was funny feeling holding hands walking-- the same feeling as I had when I was playing games in kindergarden.

At last, sleeping time. I have never imagined that the dormitories at universities were as small and dirty as this! There were ants crawling all over the door. There were stains of almost everything on the tables and chairs. Plus the toilets were so dirty and only and had two units! And in which one had a broken latch! I couldn't get a space to take a shower that night from the little girls who raced to the toilets as fast as they could. But I was too tired to argue about that, so I didn't bother about having a shower or not.
